Straight answers to the most common fit questions about the SELECT 02 Youth Allround goalkeeper gloves, from size range to closure and finger protection.
Quick answer
The SELECT 02 Youth Allround is a flat-cut youth glove available in sizes 04 to 08, and the main fit decision is matching your child's hand length to that range rather than sizing up for growth. It uses a slit wrist closure and wide strap, so the glove should feel snug at the wrist without being tight across the palm.
Why the flat cut changes the fit conversation
Flat-cut gloves like the 02 Youth Allround sit with a straighter palm and less pre-curved shape than roll-finger designs. That makes the initial try-on feel roomier across the hand, which is normal, not a sign the glove is too big. The fit should be judged by whether the fingertips reach the end of the glove and whether the palm latex makes full contact with the hand when the fingers are closed.
Where the 02 Youth Allround stops short
This model does not include finger protection. That is a deliberate limitation to know before buying: if your young keeper is playing competitive matches and you want reinforced fingers, this glove is not the one. It suits training, school play, and recreational goalkeeping where feel and comfort matter more than added structure.
Sizing without guessing
The 02 Youth Allround comes in sizes 04 through 08, and SELECT does not publish a hand-length chart in the supplied catalog details. Use the size range as a guide, then confirm with your child's measured hand length and the retailer's return policy. A glove that is too long will bunch at the fingertips and reduce grip; one that is too short will pull at the wrist strap.
Youth goalie glove sizing FAQ
- How do I know which size to order?
- Measure your child's dominant hand from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger. Compare that length to the 04–08 range and choose the closest size. If the measurement falls between two sizes, pick the smaller one for a secure grip rather than sizing up for room to grow. Write down the hand measurement before ordering so you can compare it with the size range.
- Should I size up so the gloves last longer?
- No. Oversized gloves slide on the hand, reduce control of the ball, and wear out faster at the fingertips. The 02 Youth Allround is priced as an entry-level youth glove, so replacing it when it wears out is more practical than buying a size too large.
- What does the wrist closure feel like?
- The slit-like closure and extra-wide strap are built for easy on and off. Fasten the strap so the glove stays put when your child makes a fist, but not so tight that it leaves marks. If the strap has to be pulled to its limit, the glove is likely too small.
- Are these gloves suitable for competitive matches?
- They can be used in matches, but they lack finger protection. For competitive youth leagues where finger protection is required or preferred, look at a model with reinforced fingers instead. For training and recreational play, the 02 Youth Allround is a sensible choice.
- How should the gloves fit across the palm?
- With the glove on and the fingers closed, the palm latex should make full contact with the hand and the fingertips should reach the ends of the finger stalls without pressing hard. Any loose folds across the palm mean the glove is too big.
